This adorable vintage Azilal rug features lots of small, mono-coloured diamonds and purple framing – we especially love its few multicolour diamonds (see the second pic). It was most likely made in the late 90s but remains in very good condition, especially compared to those used in a village setting. Apart from its bright colours, its playfulness and vintage soul is due to the different wear of the surfaces that have been knotted from different yarns: mostly upcycled cotton and blended yarns, but also wool. This unique wear and tear is what makes vintage Amazigh rugs so special.

The rainbow warps are made of upcycled yarns and one end has short fringes. A vintage rug is an especially great choice from a sustainability point of view, too.

** All our rugs are unique and either personally selected or custom-made for us. They reflect the imprint of the Amazigh weaving tradition, the individual creativity of their weavers, and the imperfections of hand weaving. We believe these qualities are what give them their character and charm. The sizes mentioned above do not include fringes.

Inspiration

If you’re trying to live in an environmentally conscious way, you will like the concept of Boucherouite rugs. These rugs are made of upcycled textiles, like old pieces of clothing and home textiles and are typically crafted using a hand-knotting technique. These eye-catching recycled textile rugs are not only sustainable because of their use of upcycled materials, but also because they are very durable.
